Over 500 residents gathered on the Heybourne Park open space on Saturday (13 June 2015) to enjoy the sun and games at the eleventh annual Grahame Park fun day.
Nutmeg Community successfully won the tender to project mange this years, Genesis Housing Association annual community Fun Day. The event is held as a way of giving something back to the community and celebrating the long-term transformation of the area. This year’s theme was “Unity in the community” as we wanted to reinforce the importance of communities being united.
The free event saw residents at the major Colindale regeneration scheme getting involved in a wide range of fun activities and entertainment for all the family. Highlights included a barbecue, rodeo bull, inflatable sumo wrestling, fairground rides and dance stage.
Councilor Wendy Prentice and Barnet FC Footballer Mauro Vilhete took to the stage to officially open the fun day.
The fun day also featured an information tent where festival-goers could find out more about the work of local groups including the residents association and Colindale Communities Trust, and chat to representatives from the police, fire brigade, RAF Museum and London Plus Credit Union.
Semra Yildiz, Grahame Park resident and mother of Aishenur, said: “It’s been a lovely day. My daughter has been having lots of fun, more to come”. Young people had the opportunity to engage with youth providers and gather information around services that are currently on offer for them.
Darwin Bernardo, Nutmeg Project Manager said “To see the smiles on the faces of the residents really brought this fun day to life” We would like to take this opportunity to thank Genesis Housing Association for giving us the opportunity to project manage this year’s Fun day.
