Misma recently graduated from university and is now looking for work.
How did you get to where you are? I believe when you work hard you can achieve milestones. My commitment, determination and consistency permitted me to be where I am today. There were challenges and obstacles throughout the uncertain journeys. But I reminded myself of the milestones that I have yet to accomplish. I was fortunate to have wonderful family and friends who were my wings and guided me when I felt I couldn’t fly.
Who or what inspires you? I struggled with severe depression and anxiety since the longest time. I believe it was my struggles that made me an inspiration to myself. It made me realise my weaknesses and I worked hard to develop those weaknesses and conquered my fear of taking risks which is my biggest challenge.
What have you found most challenging? The most challenging part of having severe depression and anxiety is the constant feeling of loneliness, despite having everyone you feel alone. You’re constantly searching for inner peace. The downside to this is that many people are going through the same thing as I am and its hard to reach out to those people who need help, not everyone reach out for help as they want to be in their own bubble.
What have you found most rewarding? The most rewarding thing I accomplished was sharing my experience with people and being able to tell them that it’s ok not to feel ok. I was able to talk to few people in university and on social media about my experience which permitted them to be more open with the way they feel. Sometimes you need someone to start conversation for you.
What advice would you give others? As I am dealing with severe depression and anxiety, I realised that reaching out for help was one of the ways I can help myself, I realised time will never be your best friend. You must befriend with yourself. I realised the only person who can support you is YOU.
