Our movement has gone from strength to strength!
Nutmeg Community started in 2008 in response to the increased reports of Knife and Gun crime in and around London. A group of young people from London Borough of Barnet founded the charity because they realised many youths felt victimised by negative portrayals of them and were at risk of becoming disengaged with their communities.
In September 2008 the first event was launched in Edgware during London’s Week of Peace to celebrate the achievements of young people. The event was highly successful, attracting over 300 young people from Barnet who were encouraged to ‘Get a piece of the Peace’.
After the success of the first event, there was great demand for more youth diversion projects. As a result, Nutmeg continued organising more E2G (Everyone2Gether) celebratory events which have attracted over 900 young people.
We still run community cohesion events, but are now able to deliver projects in schools and communities across the London Borough of Barnet. Our movement has grown from strength to strength and has been nationally recognised for the positive impact it has within the community.
